Goose

Canada Goose
(Branta Canadensis)This waterfowl, is a large bird with a wingspan averaging 6 feet. They often fly together in a characteristic V pattern, migrating south through Maine in the fall and returning northward in March and April. Some, however, remain in Maine throughout the year.

Their oiled feathers keep them warm and dry even in the most frigid water. They tend to favor marshes, lakes, and rivers, where you can hear their unmistakable “honk.”
